How many treatments do I need?
This answer is unique to every client and can’t be answered without assessing the tattoo. On average, clients need 5 to 10 treatments for complete removal and 3 to 4 treatments for tattoo fading. During your free consultation, our experts will assess your tattoo using a variety of factors such as tattoo age, tattoo location, tattoo colors, tattoo size, ink depth, ink density, patient health, and more to determine the number of treatments your unique tattoo will need.
How long does it take to see results?
Most clients see significant fading within the first few sessions. However, the duration for complete removal results can be estimated by adding the healing period of 6 to 8 weeks between each treatment plus the number of laser sessions your tattoo is assigned. For some, that can take 10 months or more depending on how many treatments your tattoo is assigned. We know that may seem like a long time, but the results are well worth the wait!
Can you fade my tattoo for a cover-up?
Yes! Tarnished specializes in all things tattoo removal, from complete tattoo removal, selective tattoo removal, and fading for cover-ups. More tattoo artists are using laser tattoo removal to lighten an existing piece of art to make a cleaner canvas for a cover-up piece. By fading an existing tattoo, an artist removes size, color, and creative limitations for the new cover-up.
Our partnership with Brass City Tattoo Shop can connect you with one of their talented cover-up tattoo artists.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?
Laser tattoo removal is often compared to a rubber band snapping against the skin, but can feel similar to tattoo application depending on your pain tolerance. Unlike tattoo application, laser tattoo removal treatments are extremely quick and last anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes.
Our Waterbury practice uses the Zimmer Cryo 6 cooling device to numb the skin before, during, and after treatment for the most comfortable treatment experience.
Is laser tattoo removal safe? Are there any side effects?
Laser tattoo removal is the safest method for removing unwanted ink. We use FDA-approved laser technology to deliver safe treatments and optimal results for all patient skin types. Our expert and licensed laser technicians also customize laser protocols for every client and tattoo to ensure the best results.
The weeks following treatment, you may experience temporary redness, swelling, itchiness, blistering, scabbing, and pigmentation changes. These side effects are all temporary and indicate your immune system is working to remove the shattered ink from your skin. We will provide detailed aftercare instructions to help your skin heal flawlessly outside of our practice.
